Ronald Alex Mete, 92, of Medford Oregon passed away on November 1st, 2022, surrounded by his loving family. He was proceeded in death by his parents, and his sons Jon Mete (3/16/62–12/12/19) and Tom Owings (3/8/51–11/12/21).
Ron was born in Medford on August 21st, 1930, the only child to parents Tony and Mary Mete. He was raised on the west coast, graduating from Medford High School in 1948. While still attending high school, he began working as a meat-cutters apprentice at Quality Market, which would begin his successful career in the meat industry.
Drafted into the US Army in 1951, he served at Camp Stewart, Georgia. In 1953, he returned to the Rogue Valley and to his work as a meat cutter, working at many markets in the area. Ron continued to advance in his career, eventually becoming the Manager of the Meat Department for Sherm's Thunderbird Market in Medford Oregon.
In 1958, he married Erdyne (DeDe) DeRosier in Reno, Nevada. Over the course of their nearly 65-year marriage, Ron and DeDe would move throughout Oregon and California, landing wherever a new opportunity arose. They settled in Sacramento, California in 1989, where Ron finished out his lengthy career as President of Pacific Fresh Seafood in 1992.
Ron took great advantage of his 30 years of retirement in the Rogue Valley, volunteering at St. Vincent DePaul and Jacksonville Lions Club for many years. He was able to golf, fish, travel, and spend time with his family. He had a great love of history, watching TV, and staying current on world news. He also enjoyed reading, especially about the American West.
Most recently Ron and DeDe moved to Horton Plaza in July of 2021 where he enjoyed his time and added another family to his resume.
He is survived by his wife DeDe Mete, his daughters, Toni Worthington and Julie True, his grandchildren, Tori, Elizabeth, Victoria, Yazzmin, Shelby, Lauren and Erin as well as the 10 great-grandchildren he adored.
A memorial service will be held at Memory Gardens, 1395 Arnold Lane in Medford, on November 19th, 2022, at 2:00 pm. All are welcome.
