Rachel Lewis
December 14, 1939 to January 16, 2022
Rachel Lewis passed away peacefully in her home at the age of 82, on January 16th, 2022. Rachel was born on December 14, 1939, in Holtville California. She married Edward Lewis in December 1963 and later raised her sons John and Jack. She and Ed spent the remainder of their lives together, celebrating their 58th wedding anniversary on December 21, 2022.
Rachel was a woman dedicated to serving the Lord. While holding fast to her beliefs and serving those around her, she was always seeking to better herself. Rachel left an impression on so many through her friendly disposition, kindhearted voice, and generous nature. After committing her life to the Lord in 1960, she spent the rest of her time gracefully witnessing and inspiring others to follow God. She had a deep love for her Church Communities which kept her very involved; from leading youth ministries early in life, to serving as a Board Member and church Secretary for Centro Christiano (Woodburn, OR) in her retirement. As a preacher’s kid herself, Rachel had a special place in her heart for Christian Ministers constantly finding new ways to support them in the name of God.
Rachel performed many charitable activities, alongside her husband, Ed. She was dedicated to offering support, witness, and wisdom from her life to anyone who needed it. Upon landing in the Rogue Valley in 1968, Ed and Rachel invested in property and found new neighbors across the valley from eastside to the lovely Little Applegate Valley, making meaningful friendships wherever they lived. Rachel and Ed shared their love and opened their home to so many through the years.
Many of Rachel’s greatest impressions were made through her talent for cooking. Those with history in the Rogue Valley may have had the pleasure of tasting Rachel’s cooking at their former restaurants, Juanito’s Mexican Restaurant (1978) or Rachel’s Lunch Depot (1980). Ray spent her life dedicated to building up her family and community. At different times, she was involved in organizations like the Grange, Toastmistress and local church ministries.
Rachel is survived by her husband Edward; sons John and Jack; daughters-in-law Bunny and Angelique; grandchildren Christian, Chayne, Carly, Gabriel, and Grace. In addition to her immediate family, Rachel is survived by her brothers Sam and David; sisters Patricia and Rebecca; Ed's brother and his wife Harold & Gloria, and many nieces and nephews, each of which she held closely to her heart.
In honor of Rachel’s lifetime, a graveside service is being held at Hillcrest Memorial Park on January 24th and an open Memorial Service is planned for 3 PM on February 19th at Calvary Chapel - Medford Oregon, 2005 Commerce Drive. Friends and family who cannot attend in person may livestream the memorial services via: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dAXwC6jKzUQ
