My beloved father, Oscar Dyer Peyton, 91, passed away August 29, 2012, in Medford, Ore., after a brief illness. Viewing will be at 12:30, services and interment will be at Glenn Oaks Memorial Park, Chico, Calif., cryptside, at 1:00 p.m., September 5, 2012.
Born in Hillsboro, Pocahontas County, W. Va., July 29, 1921 to Henry Winfield Peyton and Vercie Coleman Peyton, he was the second oldest of seven children. After an honorable Army discharge, he married Viola Aretta Nash in 1945. During his lifetime he worked at Byers Machine Shop in Ravenna, Ohio, drove long-distance truck, and eventually found his true love as an operating engineer working in the Los Angeles area. After retirement, he moved to Chico to be closer to family and drove the bus for Butte College, where he enjoyed the laughter and energy of young people. In his later years, he worked as a security officer in Sacramento. Beginning in 2002, he lived with his daughter and son-in-law in Sacramento. In 2009, they moved to Medford, Ore. He was a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather. He is survived by his youngest brother, Louis Peyton, of Salt Lake City; his daughter, Connie Fribance; granddaughters, Jacqueline Martin of Chico, and Deanna McBride of Sacramento; great-grandsons, Christopher Lincoln of Lodi, William Martin of Sacramento, and Michael Lincoln of Exeter, Calif.; great-granddaughter, Samantha Rogers of Chico; and eight great-great-grandsons.
He made a wonderful impression on family and acquaintances with his love of life and laughter. He will be missed but not forgotten. Hillcrest Memorial Park & Mortuary, Medford, Ore., are in care of the arrangements.
