Marvin Arnold Throne, age 83 of Central Point, OR died May 2, 2014. He was born on October 8, 1930 in Pomona, CA, to parents Paul A. Throne and Frances Arnold Throne. The family moved to Gold Hill, OR in 1936. He graduated from Gold Hill High School in 1947 and Southern Oregon College of Education in 1951.
Marvin enlisted in the Navy in 1951 and served in the Pacific region aboard the aircraft carrier Wasp. He was discharged in 1955.
He began his teaching career at Ruch Elementary School, them moved to School District 6, where he taught Beginning Band and Classroom Music. During this time, he attended Southern Oregon State College, obtaining his Master's Degree in 1960. He retired in 1987. On June 18, 1960, he married Dorothy Warren in Selma, OR.
Marvin was a Boy Scout adult leader and participated in the leadership of Crater Lake Council. He was also a member of the American Legion, and served as a docent at the Military Museum in White City, OR.
He is survived by his wife Dorothy of Central Point, Daughter Linda Manning (John) of Beatty, NV, and sons Paul (David) of Tacoma, WA and Lee (Susan) of Molalla, OR, and two grandsons, Jonathan (USAF Okinawa) and David of Kirkland, WA. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at 2:00 PM at Twin Creeks Retirement Center, 888 Twin Creeks Crossing, Central Point, OR, with Flo Bohnert Officiating. Graveside services will be private.
