Mahlon "Red" Opdahl of Medford, Oregon passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, August 23, 2013, at the age of 93.
Red was born in Sioux Falls, South Dakota in October of 1919. He celebrated his 73rd year of marriage to Hazel Akkerman five days before his passing. After being a dairy farmer in their early married years, he moved his wife and six children to Southern California where he became a carpenter. They moved to Medford, Oregon in 1967, where Red retired from construction in 1980. He loved to read, hunt, fish and camp, and instilled his joy of the outdoors in his children and grandchildren. He was the king of the one-liner and maintained a positive outlook on life to the very end.
Survivors, including his wife, are three sons, Ron, Gary and Steve and three daughters Carol, Joyce and Betty. He had 15 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.
A casual graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 27th at Hillcrest Mortuary on North Phoenix Road. An open house celebration of life will immediately follow at the family home.
