LUTHER DAVID HAMPTON, SR. December 28,1919 - January 24,2012
"Dave" Hampton passed away of natural causes on January 24, 2012 at the age of 92. He was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, but after his military service, spent most of his life in California and the last fifty plus years in Southern Oregon.
He served six years in the U.S. Army Air Corps and spent time in the Aleutians. After discharge, he spent his working career in construction, and owned and operated Royal plumbing business in Talent, Oregon, for many years.
Upon his move to Southern Oregon from Sacramento, California in the '50's, he raised and trained quarter horses in Talent. It was one of his greatest joys in life. He was also proud to be a lifetime member of the Uriah Masonic Lodge.
Dave had three children by his first wife, Betty Alexander and later married Georgia Broyles. Their marriage lasted for almost fifty years, when he lost her to pancreatic cancer in 2003.
Dave and Georgia enjoyed riding their horses, camping, and competing in AQHA events, where Dad won many awards.
Dave is survived by his daughter, Mary and her husband, Jim Merritt, of Eagle Point and a son, Don Hampton and his wife, Marilyn, of Medford, five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Another son, David Hampton, Jr., preceded him in 2009. Dad is also survived by two brothers who reside in California. At Dave's request, there will be no services. He will be laid to rest in a private family ceremony, beside Georgia in the Garden of Honor at Hillcrest Memorial Park, Medford, Oregon. Hillcrest Memorial Park & Mortuary, Medford, Oregon are in care of arrangements. www.hillcrestmortuary.com
