Joseph Avery Bowdoin, 96, former long-time resident of Shady Cove, passed away on Wednesday, March 19, 2008 in Grants Pass.
Joseph was born in Klamath Falls on September 7, 1911 to parents, William and Eva Bowdoin. He married Margaret Arlene Tyrrell on August 24, 1941 in Rogue River.
Joseph was a Pastor at various area churches and attended New Hope Bible church. He provided ministry to many missionaries and Christian workers through his Gospel Publishing Mission. He also worked locally, as a commercial printer. He and his wife, Margaret, had the gift of hospitality and opened their home to many in need of a place to stay.
Joseph was a Board Member Emeritus of the 1960 New Hope Christian School founding board, until just recently. Of his many hobbies, he enjoyed Bible study and teaching, fishing, camping, photography, printing and gardening.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Margaret, in 2003; daughter, Janice Mildren; grandson, Andrew Olson; and by his four siblings.
Survivors include sons, Terell Bowdoin of Grants Pass and Stephen Bowdoin of Dundee, Ore.; daughters, Sharon Esau of Spain and Karen Olson of Three Hills, Alberta Canada; 22 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held in Grants Pass on Saturday, March 22, 2008 at 2:30 p.m. at the New Hope Bible Church with Pastor Lowell Stutzman officiating.
