John E. Wentling

John Wentling passed away February 24, 2018 at his home in The Springs at Anna Maria, with his family by his side. He was born October 5, 1932 to Fred and Maude Wentling, in Hendley, Nebraska. After leaving Nebraska, his family resided in California for a short time before settling in Wimer, Oregon.

John graduated in 1950 from Rogue River High School and joined the US Army, January 23, 1951. He was part of the 747th Amphibious Tank and Tractor Battalion at Camp Cooke Military Reservation, California. He served in Okinawa, Japan during the Korean War. Upon honorable discharge from the service, he worked at various government jobs, including as an Oregon State Police Officer, a Game Commission Warden, and retired as a Jackson County Surveyor. He was an avid outdoorsman, who enjoyed hunting, walking with his dogs, and camping. He spent his retirement traveling the state with his late wife, Betty, as enthusiastic rock hounds.

John was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, and his wife. He is survived by his five children, 15 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. His closest surviving cousin, Bob Dawson, resides on East Evans Creek Road.
