John A. Blount
John A. Blount, of Sherwood, Ore., passed away, Sunday, January, 10, 2010. John was born November 1, 1918, in Denver, Colo., to Paul Blount and Maud Shirk. He lived in Larned and Hutchinson, Kans. He served as a front line Medic in the 35th Division, 137th Infantry during WWII, where he was in five campaigns: Normandy, N. France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Eastern Europe. He received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. After the war, he returned to Hutchinson and was active in the Army Reserves and retired as a Reserve Captain. John Blount and Joan Eales were married February 4, 1951, and they became parents of three sons during their 58 years together. In 1953, they purchased Southern Oregon Trailer Mart, later changing the name to Blount's Homes and retired in 1998. Due to an injury they were advised to move near their family. Joan and he moved to an assisted living facility in Sherwood, Ore., where he lived until his death. John was proud of his service in the 35th Division and of his 30 year perfect attendance in the Rogue Rotary, of which he was a Charter member. He was also a Paul Harris Fellow.
He is survived by his wife; and sons, John and Tami Blount, of Queen Creek, Ariz., Jim Blount, of Gilbert, Ariz. and Jason and Sarah Blount, of Sherwood; his sister, Lucille Lewis, of Kinsley, Kans.; brothers, Bill and Leafa Blount and Chuck, of Dallas, Tex.; granddaughters, Kim (Rich) Shenberger, of Queen Creek, Ariz., Abby and Ellie, grandson, Ben Blount, of Sherwood; and great-granddaughters, Marissa and Makenna Shenberger, of Queen Creek.
Services will be held at Hillcrest Memorial, in Medford, on Saturday, Jan. 16, 2010, at 2:00 p.m. A military salute will be done at the graveside. There will be a reception for friends and family at 3:30 p.m., at Pacific Village Club House, 3966 S. Pacific Hwy. Memorials may be made to Medford Rogue Rotary Scholarship fund, in lieu of flowers. The family would like to give thanks to Providence palliative and hospice staff, as well as a special thanks to the wonderful, caring and loving staff of Avamere at Sherwood.
