John Michael Bednarchik, 90, of Medford, OR. passed Sunday, May 1, 2011 at Rogue Valley Medical Center. He was born Oct. 18, 1920 in Youngstown OH. to John & Anne(Roebuck) Bednarchik. John worked in the steel mill industry in Youngstown, Ohio as a machinist prior to moving to Inglewood and subsequently to Carson, CA. in 1962. He did apartment maintenance in California and came to Oregon in 2010 to live with his nephew Gary Sumrak . John served honorably in the US Army during WWII. After retiring, he enjoyed solving crossword puzzles and keeping up with current world affairs. John is survived by two sisters; Josephine Markovitz and Genevieve "Jennie" Malkin and a brother Frank Casey all of Youngstown, OH, and several nieces and nephews. Two sisters preceded John; Helen Swaney of Arlington, VA and Jean Sumrak of Carson, CA. John was an integral member of the Sumrak family for well over fifty years. A special thanks from Gary Sumrak and Jean (Sumrak) Smith to all of those who touched John's life at Clara's Care Home, Avamere and RVMC. He will be laid to rest in Eagle Point National Cemetery in Eagle Point, OR on May 20, 2011. Hillcrest Memorial Park & Mortuary in care of arrangements.
