Jessie Mae Johnson

April 16, 1914 — April 3, 2012

Jessie was born April 16, 1914, at Lake Waubumun, Alberta, Canada, to John K. James and Jessie G. Burdick James. Jessie went to heaven on April 3, 2012. She had been a resident of the Blue Mission Senior Care facility for the past three years and their care given to her was superb. No services will be held at the present time; they will be later in the spring.
Jessie and her family moved to the Rogue Valley in 1927 from Montana. She attended Lone Pine School and graduated from Medford High School, Medford, Ore., in 1932. On March 1, 1950, she married Carroll B. Johnson, in Reno, Nev., and they raised their blended family of six. We had many adventures. Jessie was a member of the Medford Friends Church, and probably the only member left that started attending the church in the home of Pastor Milo Ross. She saw the church built and many changes. Mom was a cook at Howard School in the 1940s, and cooked many spaghetti dinners for Elk Lumber Company's Christmas parties. Mom was also one of the first cooks at the Rogue Valley Manor when it opened. She also cooked at Girl Scout Camp Lo Echo and for A Boy's School on the Rogue River. Most of all, she cooked for our family and always made and baked the best. She also cooked for potlucks and bake sales. Mom was a fantastic seamstress. With four girls and two boys, she always had her machine busy. She also did alterations and sewing for teachers and friends. She wore out two machines.
After we kids were grown, the folks became snowbirds in the winter and camp hosts at Fish Lake, Whiskey Springs, and close to Mt. Hood in the summer. They enjoyed photography and took many pictures.
Mom is survived by children, RoseMarie McCann of Central Point, Ore., Kay Heath of Klamath Falls, Ore., Sonja Roberts of Medford, Ore., Janet McClurg of Lynnwood, Wash., David Hansen of Phoenix, Ore., and Richard Johnson of Milwaukee, Ore.; 17 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; 33 great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and much loved sister-in-law, Wilma Larson of Sun City West, Ariz. Her husband, Carroll; her parents; sister; and two brothers predeceased her.
Contributions can be sent to Providence Hospice Care. Thank you, Leslie, Brandy and Shilee for all of Mom's amazing care.
Be with the angels Mom. We will all miss you.
