Janice Marie Horton-Stelle
Janice Marie Horton-Stelle, 59, of Medford, Ore., walked through the gates of heaven to meet her loving Savior on Sept. 7, 2009. She was born on July 11, 1950, in Medford, Ore., to Clinton O. Horton and Allene D. Horton. Jan is survived by her loving husband, John R. Stelle, Jr., of 41 years; mother, Allene Horton; two children, Tammy Sites and Troy Stelle, both of Medford, Ore.; three grandchildren, Cambria Stelle, Kaylee and Dylan Sites, all of Medford, Ore.; great-grandson, Matteo Coles-Stelle; four sisters, Linda Thomas, Dorothy Herbstruth (Richard), Alma Adamson (Ross) and Delores Atkins (Bob); and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in her death by her father, Clinton O. Horton, sister, Sandra Lee Horton; and two great-nephews, Parker and Blake Adamson. Jan was a graduate from Medford Senior High School, the Class of 1968. She then married John Stelle Jr. on Aug. 31, 1968, at Medford First Assembly of God. At a young age, Jan became a nurse's aid and worked for several years caring for many people at Rogue Valley Hospital. When motherhood called, she listened and began devoting her life to her children. Jan was also involved when her daughter and son were going to North Medford and was the Secretary of the Booster Club during that time. When God blessed her with grandchildren, she felt too young to be a "grandma", so "nana" she became. Devoting years of their life, "Papa" and "Nana" helped raise three grandchildren and was just one more thing she had a devoted passion for. Even though she had been sick for 29 years of her life, she NEVER let the sickness get her down. Jan loved to go camping, barbeque with the family, watch her kids and grandkids in sports, and go on trips with John and laugh and laugh. She loved her family and was there for everyone, no matter who should call. She had a passion for her Lord and Savior and devoted hours of her time to the church at Medfords 1st Assembly of God and then Bethel Church. She loved teaching her little missionette girls. Some of Jan's proudest moments were knowing she had a part in the lives of her daughter, Tammy; nieces, Tarah and Ambree; and grandchild, Kaylee to achieve the highest honor in the Missionette program and watched them being crowned. She also got to teach her great-niece, Victoria, in Daisies. She loved the time she spent with all her little girls and watching them grow and achieve that great honor. Jan was always concerned about her girls when they would not show up on Wednesday nights. But, you could always tell when Jan was the happiest when her face would beam anytime one of her girls would get an award or she would be able to give them a hug. There will be a viewing at Hillcrest Memorial Park Chapel, Weds. Sept. 16, 2009 3:00-7:30 p.m. The service will be held on Thursday, Sept. 17, at Bethel Church, 4245 Vista Point Dr., at 11:00 a.m. Contributions in Jan Stelle's name can be made to the Missionette Program at Bethel Church.
