Iris Dorothea Glanzman

February 9, 1919 — February 4, 2018

If ever there were a blue ribbon awarded for a life well lived, it would be given to our mom, Iris Dorothea Boschma Glanzman, 98, who passed away February 4, 2018, with her family by her side in Medford, Oregon.

Iris was a true Renaissance woman, who loved all styles of writing, singing, painting, music, poetry, gardening , crafts, reading, and most of all, spending time with family and friends. She will be lovingly remembered for her red hair, quick wit and sweet, ever-present smile.

Iris was born in Ashley, North Dakota, to George and Pearl (Anderson) Boschma, where her father was a school principal. Their family settled in Springfield, South Dakota, where Iris graduated from Southern State Normal College, and in 1942, married the love of her life, Walter W. Glanzman, from Yankton, SD. After moving to the Los Angeles area, Iris briefly worked at Lockheed Aircraft on the P-38 Fighter as a rivet bucker. She continued her education, and in the 1960's earned her Bachelor's degree and a teaching credential. Iris taught at Woodlawn Elementary School in Bell, CA, until her retirement in 1984. Iris and Walt moved to Medford, OR, in 1987, where she became active in OREA, the Senior Writer's Club, water excercise classes and the American Sewing Guild.

Iris is survived by her sister, Jean Boschma Snyder, daughter Gloria (Charles) Kings, sons, Dennis (Yuan), and Tom, grandsons Jeff (Stacey) Coffman, Brent (Lisa) Coffman, Mitchell Coffman, Chris (Lisa) King, and great-grandchildren, Sarah, Stephanie, Jacqueline, Jenna, Breanna, Alex, Chad and Timothy.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers Byron and Larry and sister Arlis Jansen.

A celebration of Iris' life and legacy will be held at 10AM on Saturday, March 24, 2018, in the chapel at Memory Gardens Mortuary, 1395 Arnold Lane, Medford, Oregon.
