Irene Alma Breault d'Entremont passed away at home on Feb. 21, 2007 surrounded by the love of her family. Irene was born on Nov. 23, 1919 in Lynn, Mass. In 1942 she married John Frank d'Entremont at St. Mary's Chapel in Lynn, Mass. Their wedding was officiated by Monsignor Cornelius Sherlock. Thinking that Frank had a 30 day furlough, they planned their wedding accordingly. Three days after the wedding, Frank received a telegram ordering his immediate return to the Norfolk, Virginia Marine base. They never got their honeymoon but spent the next 65 years together. They continued to live in Lynn but eventually moved to California and then to Oregon in 1953.
Irene was a multitalented woman. She had a beautiful voice and played the guitar. In 1938 she had her own radio show in which she sang with her sister, Pauline, on station WEEI in Boston, Mass. They received a multitude of fan mail with requests for songs like "Riding Down the Canyon," and "Colorado Trail." In later years, in Frank and Irene's Ashland home, you might hear them playing music together; Frank on the keyboard and Irene on the guitar.
Irene also loved to paint. Her favorite subjects were Native Americans, nature and beautiful old barns. Many times, she enjoyed using photos that Frank had taken and painted from them. She loved it when one of us might ask her to paint something special. We are all fortunate to have some of her paintings hanging in our homes.
Most of all, this spunky woman loved her family and devoted her life to raising three girls, Janice Campbell of Roseburg, Ore., Lorraine Rawls of Talent, Ore. and Denise Peterson of North Bend, Wash. She leaves behind 6 grandchildren she was very proud of, Bobby Campbell, Shelly Campbell, Shannon Peters, Kristina Peterson, Heather Peterson and Huron Smith; 6 great grandchildren, Steven, Bryan, Becca, Bryndon, Kyler and Megan; her beloved little rescue dog, Chico and the love of her life, Frank.
She gave us great gifts in her life. A sense of fairness and equality for all people, an appreciation for history, old movies, art, music, and a never ending love for animals (she always had rescue animals). We are thankful to have all of those qualities instilled in us and pass on her legacy to others.
If you would like to celebrate the life of Irene, please come to the Oak Valley Community club house at 105 Christopher Way in Talent, Ore. from the hours of 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sat., Feb. 24th.
