Idabelle Jane Bayliss

Idabelle Jane Bayliss, a longtime resident of Medford, Ore., died Monday, November 15, 2010, at Rogue Valley Medical Center. She was born on February 18, 1920, in Athens, Ohio, the daughter of Joseph Wallace and Sylvia Simmons-Wallace. After attending Ohio University, she migrated to Long Beach, Calif., where she worked for Shell Oil Company, and where she met and married her husband, Dr. James W. Bayliss, on January 17, 1943. Dr. Bayliss founded Medford's Siskiyou Veterinary Hospital in 1955, and the family settled in Medford, Ore.
Idabelle loved golf and, in 1982, was president of the Rogue Valley Country Club Women's Golf Association. Upon her retirement, she mentioned to the group that she would continue to play golf until she ran out of golf balls, where upon she was gifted a lifetime supply of balls by the Women's Golf Association. Idabelle was also very active in alpine skiing at Mt. Ashland, where she was a longtime member of the Rogue Snowmen and the Mt. Ashland Racing Association. Outside of golf and skiing, her passion in life was cheering for the Ohio State football team. Idabelle was devoted to St. Mark's Episcopal Church, where she was a captain in the alter guild, and a member of the Vestry. Idabelle is survived by her three daughters, Lynda (Louis) Pincock, Joella (Michael) Gandee and Teresa (Deva) Harris; grandchildren: Justin Mills, of Seattle, Wash., Bryan Mills, of New York City, N.Y., and Kimberly Gandee, of Roseburg, Ore.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m., on Tuesday, December 28, 2010, at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 140 N. Oakdale, Medford, Ore.
