GLENN A. BACKES 1936~2007
A Celebration of Life service will be held for Glenn at 10:00am Friday, November 30th at Hillcrest Memorial Chapel, 2201 N. Phoenix Rd. Medford. Glenn is survived by his wife of 52 years, Joy Backes; his daughter, Glenda (John) Sarratt; two sons, Kevin (Kim) Backes; Tracy (Candy) Backes; three granddaughters, Mandi (Richard) Hamblin; Erica (Matt) Vanalstine and Chelsea Backes; and two great-grandchildren, Richie and Hai'lee Hamblin. Brother, Bill (Ruth) Backes; sisters, Norma Lacy, Anita Osborne, and Questa (Rick) Knight; and many in-laws and nieces and nephews. Glenn was born August 15, 1936 to Arthur and Ruth Backes in Jacksonville, Oregon. He attended Jacksonville schools, and graduated from Jacksonville high school in 1955. He was very involved with planning his school reunions. He loved seeing all of his friends there. He worked in the timber industry for over 30 years, starting at Elks Lumber Company, and then Boise Cascade. He retired in 1996. Our dad loved fishing with his brother-in-law, Archie Kitchen, at Brookings, making wood burl clocks and making bottom fishing lures. He loved starting each day with our mom, reading the bible with her, and then saying prayers for all the family together. He loved meeting his coffee club buddies for coffee each month, and he never met a waitress he couldn't charm, especially all the girls at the Medford Sizzler. To everyone who knew and loved him, thank you! Your friendship meant the world to him.
