August 27, 1926 — March 31, 2016

Floyd Vernon and Rosa Lee Young

Floyd was the youngest child born to Floyd Vernon Sr. and Nellie B Young, August 1926. The family moved to what would become Columbia Orchard in Talent in 1930. He attended school in Talent, leaving high school to attend and graduate from a mechanical trade school in the Tri-Cities area of Washington. He enlisted in the US Navy October of 1944 and was honorably discharged July 1946. He came home to work for his dad in the orchard and used part of his mustering out pay to buy a used Triumph. He 'hopped' it up and was soon beating all comers, who would then have him tune up their motorcycles. He started Rogue Valley Cycle Co in 1950, operating it for 66 years. He became famous for his knowledge of English make motorcycles and almost as well known for having only two speeds, slow and stop. If pushed to move faster, he shifted to stop. He had friends and customers worldwide, New Zealand, Australia and England as well across the United States.
Rosa Lee was the youngest child born to Walter and Bertha Charley, January 1932. The family lived in Eagle Point and then moved to Central Point. Rosa graduated from Crater High School. She was a member of the Civil Air Patrol, played baseball, as well as working with siblings at local orchards and the vegetable fields. She graduated from the Medford Beauty School while also working as a telephone operator. She was a proficient league bowler. Rosa was a woman known for her faith, words of encouragement and prayer.
They were married in Reno, Nevada February 8, 1932. Their family grew to have 6 children. Valerie, James, Vicki, Teri, Tammy, and Christina. Grandchildren, Amber, Bryan, Krista, Joe, Matthew, Michaelia, Alyssa, Andrew, Nichelle, Jennifer, Mackenzie, Tim and Nick. Great grandchildren, Alexis, Tommy, Domanic, Haley, Emily, Alijah, Sarianna, Aria, Autumn, Rylan and Declan. Dad would often look around at gatherings to ponder, "Did we start all this?"
Rosa moved to heaven October 2010 and Floyd joined her March 2016. They were greeted on their arrival by granddaughter Katie Rose and grandson Zachary Ryan. Dad requested that there be only a joint memorial for them after he passed. His request will be honored August 18, 10am at Hillcrest Memorial Park. There will be a reception following.
