Esther Lovira Olmstead
Esther Lovira Olmstead was born to George and Mary Hamilton on July 12, 1915 in Tulare, California and died at 92 years of age on March 20, 2008 in Medford, Oregon. Esther is preceeded in death by her loving husband, Eugene Olmstead, of 63 years in 2006.They were married in Reno, Nevada on August 4 1944, and had eight children, 15 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. Esther was the youngest of four children, two brothers and one sister, who are all deceased.
Loving, Kind, Thoughtful, and Giving-Esther was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. In her early years, she worked as a practical nurse providing nursing home care to the elderly and disabled. Her faith was also an important part of her life, as she belonged to the Pentecostal Church of God, which led her in the direction of missionary work and the love of Native Americans. She worked many years with the Navajo Tribe, which brought such joy to her heart.
In the end, she suffered many trials with her physical health coping with cancer for the fourth time. This poem seems fitting, "God saw that you were getting tired and a cure was not to be. So, he put his arms around you and whispered, come to me. With tearful eyes we watched you and saw you pass away. Although we loved you dearly, we could not make you stay. A golden heart stopped beating, hard working hands laid to rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us, he only takes the best."
Esther's memorial service will be held at Hillcrest Memorial Park Chapel on Wednesday, March 26th, at 2:00p.m. Viewing will be on Tuesday, March 25th, from 3:00-7:30, at Hillcrest Memorial Park.
