Elizabeth Jane "Liz" Sattar-Pyke

January 17, 1953 — June 14, 2012

Liz passed peacefully in her sleep on June 14th, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her loving family and friends. Liz was born in San Diego in 1953 to Marianne and George Cooley and came to the Rogue Valley as a child. She attended local schools and graduated from Ashland High with the class of 1971. She is survived by her Mother Marianne Cornett, husband William (Wads) Pyke, son Shareef Sattar, daughter-in-law Jenell Sattar, and loving granddaughters Marissa and Makenna Sattar. Liz and Wads were also foster parents for over four hundred children that have passed through their home as a part of Children's Services Division and the Lithia Springs Community Works program. The Pykes were recently honored by the community at the country club, but due to her failing health, Liz was unable to attend. She was honored by a standing ovation, and will be sadly missed. Many of the children who passed through the Pyke home still stay in contact with the family.
Liz's greatest joy was her granddaughters; she loved her time as their "Memaw". Liz also loved spending time with her family and large circle of friends. Her goal in life was to help those who were less fortunate than her, and did her very best to achieve this goal. For relaxation, Liz and Wads loved to go on cruises, with Alaska being their ideal destination. Many say that angels walk amongst us and Liz truly was one of those angels. Services were held on Thursday June 21, 2012 at the Hillcrest Memorial Park Chapel, Medford, OR., with a reception to follow at Sattar's home. Hillcrest Memorial Park & Mortuary, Medford, OR. are in care of arrangements. www.hillcrestmortuary.com
