Dorothy Mae Plumley

January 2, 1927 — August 10, 2018

Dorothy Plumley (Nana), beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother passed away peacefully at her home at Twin Creeks Retirement Community, Central Point on August 10, 2018. Born Dorothy Mae Hanson to Alma and Obert Hanson in Watertown, South Dakota on January 2, 1927. She was 91 years of age. Dorothy has called the Rogue Valley home for 83 years, and has spent more than 72 of those years married to her husband Doug (Gramps).
Dorothy was a 1945 graduate of Medford High School where she won the Accordion State Championship in Oregon, and also served as head majorette. She is survived by her husband Douglas of Central Point; brother Richard Hanson (Luci) of Grants Pass; and daughters Susan Piche (Bill) of Denver, Colorado and Janet Packard (Walt) of Medford; 9 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. One additional grandson Kris Carey of Medford passed away in 2009.
Nana was many things to many people.  To her great grandchildren she was a warm smile, mischievous playmate, and a talented needlework artist.  To her grandchildren she was a role model, the orchestrator of perfect childhood Christmases, and a loving cheerleader.  To her daughters she’s Mom – holding high expectations for her girls, but with bottomless love and generosity. Finally, to Doug she was a steadfast friend, companion, and partner.
Dorothy whose love of life, sense of humor, and generosity were well known to both friends and family was a fifty -year member of Beta Sigma Phi social sorority and served more than 40 years as a Volunteer at Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center. Dorothy and Doug are also active members of Rogue Valley Country Club (where she played actively in the Rogue Valley Women’s Golf Association) and Ascension Lutheran Church.
A “Celebration of Life” service will take place at Ascension Lutheran Church Friday, August 17th at 2PM.  Flowers should be sent to Ascension Lutheran Church, 675 Black Oak Drive, Medford, OR  97504. Arrangements by Hillcrest Memorial Park & Mortuary 541-773-6162.
