Dorris Corrine Swindler
Dorris Corrine Swindler was peacefully taken by our Lord on Saturday, March 29, 2008, and was surrounded by family as she went forward. The cause of death was "living a long life."
She was born on August 24, 1925 in Bellfouche, S.D. to Clarence and Mabel Cooper. She was the youngest of 10 children and is survived by her sister, Evelyn Lushbough, 91 years young, of Sturgis, S.D. Her parents brought her and some of her siblings to Southern Oregon soon after her birth. They settled in the Talent area where they attended the Friends Church. Doris and James "Big Jim" Swindler were married in 1945. He was a truck driver who drove six million accident-free miles during his 28 years as a driver. He preceded her in death in 1995. Doris was a homemaker and rased two relatively rowdy sons, Gary, who is married and owns a Subaru repair shop in Eugene, Ore. and Mike, 50, who is single and works in construction in Eagle Point, Ore. Doris was also a mother figure to several other family members, being totally dedicated to her family. She also leaves behind one grandson, three great grandchildren and one great-great grandson as well as many nieces and nephews.
Doris was well known as a fun-loving, strong-willed woman. She loved to square dance, play cards, bingo and scrabble and challenged herself with crossword puzzles. Camping was something she especially enjoyed, the high mountain lakes of the Cascades were her favorite. She requested to have her ashes placed there.
She will be missed by many people. Heaven has gained a great soul.
