Dale Newbern Hodges

June 16th, 1933 – January 13th, 2025

Dale Hodges passed away peacefully in his sleep on January 13th, 2025, and has gone to join his heavenly family. He is the son of Newbern and Elsie Hodges, and is survived by his own son Gordon, as well as by his grandchildren Nichole and Tyler Connor.

Dale married Marilyn Miller in September of 1957 and went on to earn a bachelor of science in electrical engineering from Oregon State University. They were happily married for over 63 years until she passed away. Both their daughter Linda and adopted son Darrell lost their battles with cancer prior to her death.

Dale was a veteran of the Korean war. His passions included fishing, fly-tying, and the great outdoors. He also had a great love for all of his dogs. Much time was spent fishing, camping, and backpacking, and if there was an unidentified plant, tree, or bird, the Field Guide often came out. If there was an unfamiliar backroad, it did not remain so for long.

As a child he earned some spare money by diving for dropped boat motors; this and the many numerous backwoods adventures were something he often enjoyed relating. The coast was also a well-loved destination. He was a ham radio operator, subscribed to a multitude of magazines, and had a knack for building such things as metal detectors, several custom boats, and those odd little gravity toys.

Dedicated father, accomplished tinker, undisputedly an interesting fellow who could yak for a long time, he will be sorely missed by all who knew him. Rest in peace and be with the Lord, Dad, we will see you again.
