I was born in Detroit, Mich. to James and Mary Barr. I grew up well loved by my Grandma Davis and my aunts, May and Lou. I married John Edward Samples and gave birth to John (Gail) Samples Jr. and James (June) Samples.
In 1954 I married Richard Donnelly and had my next four children, Diane (Dennis) Winchell-Riggs, Joseph (Trudy) Donnelly, Mary (Scott) Lundquist, and Richard (Ann) Donnelly Jr. Phew! In 1961 I was widowed and raising six children, but with God's help we survived with limbs intact, eventually settling in Oregon.
In 1972 I married Robert Shults who brought four year old son, Robert Shults Jr., into the family. Yep, that made seven. After the kids left we sold the home and traveled throughout Canada and the U.S. Bob preceded me in death in 2005.
I held many jobs, including Shedd-Bartush Foods in Detroit, then Rogue River Orchards, Avon, and Harry and David in Oregon. I later provided babysitting and senior care, but my most important jobs were always Mom, Grandma, and Great-Grandma. I also greatly enjoyed reading, camping, crafts, bingo, and I was a life-long learner (Some allege I was a notorious "foodie" - Humpf!).
My celebration of life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 1, 2014 at Hope Christian Church. My friend and Pastor, Aaron Veach, will lead the celebration.
