Betty Fichtner Rodenmayer 1910 - 2007
Betty Fichtner Rodenmayer left to be with the Father Thursday, May 31, 2007 surrounded by her family at home. Betty was the second of seven daughters and one son of John Patrick and Fanny Belle. She was born in Taos, New Mexico in 1910.
When eight months old, the family moved to Montana where they homesteaded until the drought turned the land into a dustbowl. They then moved to Ashland, Ore. where Betty attended school at Ashland High School and Southern Oregon Normal School. After college she took advanced studies in art and stagecrafts. Betty specialized in designing women's clothes, costumes and acting in many plays. It was during this time that she met and wed Clyde Fichtner and had four children. She later wed Glenn Rodenmayer, who had two sons from a previous marriage.
Her many accomplishments included designer and professional seamstress, supervisor at the Naval Supply Depot on More Island, owner of Services Unlimited and Marketing Director of Madison House.
Betty was a charter member of the Medford Emblem Club #420, and an active member of Christ Unity Church of Medford serving on the board and as Sunday School Superintendent. She was also active with the American Legion Auxiliary, volunteering for many hours on behalf of Veterans at the VA Domiciliary. She was also active with the Britt Society, Christian Women's Club and Eleanor Roosevelt League.
Husbands, Clyde C. Fichtner, Glenn Rodenmayer; and a stepson, Jerry Rodenmayer; five sisters, Leauna, Jessie, Nellie, Christina, Rosaland; and brother, Hobart, predeceased Betty.
Betty is survived by three daughters, Shirley Dempsey (Donald), Carolyn Chamberlain (Dick), Muriel Ringel; two sons, Gary Fichtner and John Fichtner; a stepson, Phil Rodenmayer; and a sister, Maxine Wood. 21 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren and 19 great-great-grandchildren also survive her.
The funeral service will be held at Conger Morris Funeral Chapel, West Main St., Medford on Thursday, June 7 at 1:00 pm. Viewing will be held at Conger Morris on Wednesday, June 6, 2007 from 3 - 7 p.m. The Reverends Colleen Graham and Rob Wheeler of Christ Unity Church will officiate. Private interment will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Shriners Hospital - Portland, 3101 S.W. Sam Jackson Rd. Portland, OR 97239 or at the VA Domiciliary in White City.
She was dearly loved and we miss her.
