Lavern "Barney" William Johnston, age 92, of Medford, OR., passed Saturday, June 16, 2012. He was born April 11, 1920 in Grants Pass, OR., to Peter and Hilda Johnston Sr. Except for his military service he spent most of his life in the Rogue Valley and Lake Creek areas. Barney served honorably in the US Navy during WWII. He enjoyed and was well known by local ranchers for hauling hay. When younger he liked to take his nephews deer hunting. He is survived by two sisters; Blanche Zwan of Grants Pass, OR., and Ruth Miller of Las Vegas, NV., many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by three brothers; G.W., Melvin and Peter Johnston Jr. and a sister Betty Willock Johnston. Graveside services with military honors was held Wednesday, June 20, 2012 at Hillcrest Memorial Park, 2201 N. Phoenix Rd., Medford, OR.
